29th August 2003 - Skipton Festival - written by Barbara McNamara

We have just got back from the Skipton Festival where we had a fantastic time as usual. This year there was a seperate field for 'Westerners' on which we had shoot outs twice a day and other various shows. After the evening shows in the marquee, we all got together and had sing-a-longs around various camps.
The festival kicked off on Thursday night with Johnny Williams, followed by Dillinger and finishing with The Corn Dogs. A good start to the festival and with a bigger crowd than usual on the opening night. Friday afternoon saw the likes of Ash Phoenix, Jim Ryder & Adam James, Texas Gun while the night entertainment saw the likes of Aiden J. Daniels, Sarah Jory, Paul Martin & and finishing off with Red Rock County. After much singing and drinking until the early hours, the Dawn Riders saw the opening of Saturdays entertainment with Alan Cameron, Lazy Dog and Western Union which was only the build up to an excellent evenings performance by Trick Ryder, Henry Smith & Country Dreams, finishing off with West Virginia. Saturday, for us, was the best day all round and the marquee was packed!! Sunday kicked off with Back in the Saddle, American Routes then Boomer McClennan Band from America. The evenings line up consisted of Dillinger, Saloon Drifters the the Trilogy was performed by the Blues & Greys....and there were a lot of us! In fact there were a great number of Westerners & Indians all weekend. Boomer McClennan finished the night off.
Monday started with Johnny Williams & The Red Necks and Donna Wylde, then the green frogs, bannersd and scarfs came out for the Raymond Froggat Show. The festival ended on Monday night with John McCane / Last of Breed, Texas Gun and finally Honest Truth.
There was a good variety in music, so there was something to suit everyone. It was a great festival all around, even the weather was kind to us this year. We made a lot of new friends, many of them are coming to visit the club. It wasn't nice having to say goodby on Tuesday morning, but we're already looking forward to next year!
